Today I wanted to present you a beloved technique of mine that includes and combine two of my craft favourites: ceramics and fibre. And what a better way to do that than introducing to you three women artists that seem to have mastered that way of crafting, each one with her own different aspect? Enjoy below the work of Eneida Lombe Tavares, Tracy Wilkinson and Karen Gayle Tinney!
Eneida Lombe Tavares has practiced ceramics and basketry with a unique outcome! With this mixed technique she creates vessels and containers with an amazing and unexpected form. Angolan traditional basketry coiling technique and ceramics join a intercultural dialogue! Enjoy her work below and follow her here for more of that amazing artist!
Tracy Wilkinson through her creative process also combines ceramics with fibre to create interesting design objects, such as decorative ceramics, homeware and furniture! You can explore more on her work here!
Karen Gayle Tinney combines ceramic and fibre, drawing inspiration from the properties of the materials. Using many fibre techniques, such as braids and fringe, but also coiling that is traditional to basketry. Her masterful weaving results in a surprisingly hard structure out of the soft material.
