As we go along on these all about yarn stories, i would love to launch a new series, where i will introduce to you amazing fibre artists that got my attention, famous or less known to you.
Today, i want to start this experiment by Introducing Dana Barnes Studio and its magnificent work on unspun natural fibres! From large scale sculptural art installations with a new unconventional approach, to everyday textile objects or floor pieces in interior design .
Hands-on experimentation with several materials (felt, braided or knotted unspun wool) lead to various scale structures.
Don’t you just love this creative chaos on the process of making? The fibers taking over the studio space, while they are being handled with such a compelling artistic way. LOVE the 3-dimensional perspective and the scale of studio’s work!
Find out a lot more about her work in an interesting presentation-intereview on the New York Times here and read about how it all started as a homegrown adventure meant to cover the footsteps sound of her two daughters, after the neighbour’s complaints! Who (and by who i am actually referring to parents with downstairs neighbours) can not relate to that? I know i can!
