Alvaro Catalán de Ocon, an industrial engineer decided back in 2011 to focus on a project about reusing PET plastic bottles and giving them new life as design products, towards an attempt to address the plastic waste problem in Colombia. He tried to merge local weaving techniques with the idea of industrial lighting and came up with an amazing result!
The idea travelled the next years to Chile, Ethiopia and Japan and evolved to “an anthropological study of different indigenous weaving traditions, underlining the role that craft knowledge can play in local culture, and accentuating preservation of craft knowledge and tradition”.
