Sunday’s Visual Diary #47: Yuni Kim Lang
Explore the work of Yuni Kim Lang, through her work on different materialities that characterise her as a visual artist, enjoy!
How it all began: Back at 2014 Christmas time i was hopelessly struggling to buy presents for all my dearest friends and relatives, but had NO money at the time, so you can see how that was kind of a problem for me back then. Then, i did some thinking and came up with the idea to actually make the presents myself (cool, no?)
It was only few months that i had learned how to crochet from youtube videos and tutorials (as a home staying mom at the time, i just HAD to do something not to get crazy..) and found myself so hooked up with it that i tried some free form crochet necklaces experimentations (!)
By New Year’s Eve i had made about 18 crochet necklaces all packed and ready to give away. They were all well received and many of my friends motivated me to make something more of it.
After half a year i opened my Etsy shop and i’ve been working since on creating crochet jewellery. As an architect, i am kind of restless with the meaning of form and texture, so if you take a tour you will discover how i try to experiment with different materials and shapes, such as cotton, silk, paper or clay and expand their limits. It is an on going process of course and i am not quite there yet, but that is the main idea behind my brand: try to value uniqueness and recognize the importance of personalisation.
The blog story: Well, the blog story is not yet written and it can not be complete without your participation, comments, sharing and ideas (otherwise it is just me writing my diary in my pj’s back in high school…).
The idea behind it is to create a wide platform of mainly visual ideas, connecting through yarn, textile and fibre materials. Jewellery makers, fibre artists, DIY projects, yarn crafts for kids, fashion knitwear, embroidery, weaving and many many other yarn related ideas, following a virtual thread to a rich visual diary for you to enjoy!
It is a high goal, but i will take it step by step and see where it will take us! Join me for the rest of the trip and have fun!! Welcome!
